An erect, spreading shrub 1 - 2 m tall, up to 3 m across. Flowerheads have short flowers sunken within the long involucral bracts. Involucral bracts are shiny, cream to pink to carmine, tipped with a black or white beard. Grows invaried soils but favours richer soil. Flowers Jun-Jul.

Commonly known as 'Silver sugarbush'. Grows to height of 1.5m and a spread of up to 3m. It is an erect and sprawling shrub. Here in South Africa, the further north the plant is found, the more erect – and more southern populations are cup-shaped yeilding a yeasty smell. The bracts are usually deep red, but sometimes are yellow-green tinged with red. Flowering occurs from autumn to spring and the seeds should be sown in autumn. They are hardly to USDA zone 8.

Commonly known as 'Silver sugarbush', growing to a height of a 3-8m, forming a small upright tree. It grows in a variety of different habitats of soil and vegetation types and is one of the few proteas found in summer rainfall areas. Its' leaves are sometimes silky and silvery, and other times smooth. The flowers heads are goblet-shaped, pink to ruddy brown in color, with bracts covered in silk, silver hairs. Flowering occurs from summer to autumn and seeds should be sown in spring It is fast growing, adaptable and attractive. Hardy to USDA zone 8.

This is one of the prostate proteas with a spread of around 0.5-0.7m and height of to 0.5m. It has a single main stem with many branches. The narrow, longish leaves that are rough with a wavy margin. The bracts of the small flower heads are hairy and snowy in color on the outside with a vivid, red tinged with purple color on the inside. The flowers never open completely, so the inside color is not well displayed. Flowering occurs from spring to summer and the seeds should be in autumn. They are hardy to USDA zone 8.
